What Is Optavia

Optavia is a health and Wellness based MLM Company that offers people the opportunity to use and also make money with their products through direct sales and recruitment.

They are very well focused on weight loss. And they claim they aim to help people achieve lifelong transformation, one healthy habit at a time.

In essence, their products and plan are meant to help you achieve the right weight loss and also help you maintain and live a healthier lifestyle.

Optavia was formerly known as Take shape For Life, which was a subsidiary of Medifast, a weight loss product company that was founded in 1980.

Take Shape For Life was rebranded as Optavia in 2017.

With this rebrand came the new line of product known as Optavia Essentials which are marketed directly from their health coaches to clients.

Have in mind that these said health coaches are not necessarily health certified people, but people who may have used their products and are willing to help others as they journey through their transformation or those people who have become Optavia distributors.

One good thing we discovered about Optavia is that unlike most MLM companies that are rallied with lawsuits, Optavia seems to be free of it.

How Does Optavia Work

Optavia deals solely on helping people transform their lives through weight loss programs and also help them to retain that transformation to live a healthier life, they do this through their meal replacement programs with the aid of their health coaches.

They also provide people with the opportunity to become one of their health Coaches and become distributors.

In essence, they are offering you the opportunity to not just use their products, but also to make money with them.

And since they operate as an MLM company, that means you can only make money with them in two ways, direct sales and recruitment.

Direct Sales

To get started with Optavia you will need to first register as a coach/distributor by paying $199 which covers the cost of your start-up kit.

You will now have access to purchase their monthly meal plan and sell them directly to your client.

The downside to retail sales in MLMs is that you can hardly make anything sustainable as the commissions made are quite low.

Hence, the need to recruit and build a downline to increase your chances of becoming successful.

Recruitment

This is where the real money is made when it comes to MLMs.

When you recruit people to join, you will not just earn commission on them, but you will also earn commission from the people they recruit and the people their recruits’ recruits and so it goes on…

These people are said to be your downline and the more people you and your downline recruits, the more your downline expands.

And for every one of these people who makes sales, you will get a certain percentage as those sales as commission up to the generation stated by the company.

With this, you can imagine the income potential and why it is a more lucrative way to succeed with MLM.

But as always, the problem remains to be able to recruit people who will be willing to stay and help grow that downline.

As unfortunately, majority of the people who join MLM tend to give up along the way when things don’t turn out the way they expected as per when they were pitched the business model.

But with Optavia things are slightly different as you only get commissions based on your rank and the overall sales volume of your team.

That is, you don’t get a commission on each person you recruit, the commission is based on the total sales volume of your entire downline.

Optavia Compensation Plan

As usual, MLM compensation plans are always very complicated and hard to understand but we did our best here to break it down so you can better understand it. For full disclosure, you can check it out here.

Optavia compensation plan works in three stages to help you earn money:

Client Support Income (Direct Sales)

This is also known as direct sales, where you deal directly with people who just want to purchase and use the products.

And as a health coach, you will earn 15 % commissions at this stage based on the personal volume of orders (purchase) made by these clients whom you personally sponsor and support.

These people are known as your level 1 frontline.

You will also be entitled to some bonuses as you meet up with the requirements to obtain them. These include:

>>>Client Support Commissions

>>>Certification Bonus

>>>Client Support Bonuses

>>>Coach Consistency Bonuses

>>>Client Acquisition Bonus

Team Building Income (Recruitment)

Income you will earn when you build and mentor coach teams.

In other words, you recruit and mentor other coaches to build your downline.

For every one of these coaches you help to earn their Acquisition Bonus, you will also receive $100 Bonus known as Assist Bonus.

You can also earn other bonuses as you meet the requirement for each one. These include:

Team Growth Bonuses

Fully Integrated Business Coach Bonus.

Leadership Development Income

You can earn commissions as a Business Leader once you can help build your team to the stage of executive and regional directors.

You will further earn more bonuses as you meet up with their stated requirements. These include:

Executive Director Generation Bonuses

Elite Leadership Bonuses.

Under Elite Leadership Bonuses you have three stages:

National Elite Leadership Bonus

Global Elite Leadership Bonus

Presidential Elite Leadership Bonus.

Here is a video further explaining how it works, you can check it out.

Does Optavia Work

Yes, Optavia does work! Given the number of positive testimonials given by people who have used their products over some time and its high rating on the Better Business Bureau.

But what one needs to have in mind is that what works for Mr A may probably not work for Mr B.

Besides these plans only work when someone is consistent with them.

Meaning if they should stop at some point and return to their regular eating habits then they should expect to gain back all those weights.

Which brings us to the question is it worth it?

Is Optavia Worth It

Given that one would have to invest over $300 at every monthly purchase as a direct user and knowing you will need to be on this for a long period to actually succeed with it, then I don’t think it is worth it because the cost is very high.

I mean for how long would someone be willing to cough out over $300 just to maintain weight loss and live a healthier lifestyle?

Especially when they know that once they stray from this plan or program they can gain that weight all over again.

So how many people will be willing to stick with continual purchase of these products at its expensive cost, Knowing that there lots of weight loss products and programs out there that offer cheaper prices?

I believe the key factor here is self-discipline.

And as people learn they can curtail their appetite and eat the right food and also exercise, to achieve these same goals they seek with Optavia without having to pay all that money, the need for Optavia purchases will decline, which leads to a low success rate.

And this brings us to the next question, is Optavia right for you?

Is Optavia Right For Me

This is a very serious question you need to ask yourself before getting involved in this business model.

MLM is often frowned at because most times it always turns out to be a pyramid scheme and when legit, majority of the people who get involved end up losing their money rather than making more.

Pyramid schemes are MLMs that depend mostly on recruiting people to join the company rater than promoting the products it owns if any.

But we are happy that Optavia is different as they focus more on helping people to the recruitment. So it is definitely not a pyramid scheme.

Bu the fact remains that the majority of the people who make money with MLMs are the owners and the upper-level recruits.

For example, take a look at Optavia income disclosure for the year 2018 for their US coaches

Is Optavia A Scam

From the image above you can see that the percentage of people who made no single cent is at 30.60%.

And this at an average of 17 months, which means for over a year and 5 months these people made nothing.

Have in mind that these people would have probably lost money in this process given they had to purchase products monthly to be able to earn commission, they also had to pay a yearly fee of x and started with a fee of $199.

And a staggering 89% or more have made less than $500 while those that actually made up to $500 to $1,000 took close to two years to achieve this.

And as for those who started earning over $200,000 that took a period of over 7 years and the percentage isn’t even up to 1%.

In my opinion, a business that less than 80% of the people aren’t able to even make up to $500 in a month isn’t looking promising at all, or what do you think?

For more clarification on the success rate of MLM business check this out.

With all these in mind, before venturing into this business model, you also need to ask yourself a few questions like…

Do I have the capacity to recruit people

How many people do I have that will be willing to join me

Am I willing to lose friends and family over trying to make money

Am I a good salesperson

Do I have what it takes to build and maintain a downline

Do I have what it takes to get social and market Optavia?

So if you ask yourself the above questions and more and you are not 100% Positive about your answers, then I believe This business model is not for you.

You know when people try to recruit or pitch you the business, they never go into details what it really takes, they make light of the situation and might flash a couple of dollars they already made just to entice you.

But until you get in and commit, then you realise what it takes to be successful with this business model.

So instead of sweating it through this, I believe affiliate marketing is a better and easier business model for you to invest in.

Optavia Complaints

In as much as there are positive reviews from Optavia users, there are also negative ones from some of them but the good news is that none of these complaints has anything to do with the product not working and below are the major complaints we came across on some review sites

No approved auto-shipments

Some people complained of being charged for auto-shipments that they never approved for.

Is Optavia A Scam

Not Certified Health Coaches

Some people assume that the coaches are certified health coaches but unfortunately, they are not, most of them are people that have used the products and are willing to help others through their process while others are simple people that registered to become distributors.

A client was pissed to learn the truth about his coach after he had some encounter.

Not So Good A Taste

Some also complained that they do not like the taste of some of the foods as they tasted weird. But the good thing is that there are a variety of them so one can easily make a switch to a more preferable ones.

Pros

It is a legit business model

It has a 30- day refund policy

It is from a solid root as its parent company has been in existence for over 38 years now and has a good reputation.

Cons

The products are quite expensive

You will need to keep to the plan to achieve your goals

Success rate is very low and discouraging.

Success also depends on building a downline.

In Conclusion

Is Optavia a scam? No, it is not in our opinion. It is not also a pyramid scheme

Optavia does have products that they sell and are not solely dependent on recruitment to scale their business which makes them legit and sustainable.

But this does not guarantee you will be making money with them.

And as a result of its low success rate, we will not be recommending it. But then this is our opinion.

I believe we have provided you with enough information to help you make your own decision.

Verdict

Legit

When I see articles about the opportunity to make money, I read with great interest the articles.
First of all, I am very happy that Optavia is not a scam. This method of making money is legal and reliable. I have a website that I created through an affiliate marketing program. Do you think I could promote the products offered by Optavia on my site and earn some passive income from commissions? Thank you and keep in touch.

Hi Nim, thanks for dropping by, unfortunately you will need to first register with optavia and become one of their distributor before you can promote their product. And to my best of understanding I know they will provide you with their own website to promote their products specifically, so I guess you will need to go through their terms and condition to know what you can and can not do.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers…
